まず、ボールが跳ねるという意味の、バウンド（bounce）とは全く関係が無かったのに驚きました。英語で説明した文を読んでみると
"Out of bounds" means that something (like a ball or a player) has gone outside the boundaries of the designated area, especially in sports.
The boundary is the line that marks the limit of the playing field.
So, if something goes beyond that boundary, it is considered out of bounds.
と、boundaryに由来する言葉だったんですね。始めて知りました。boundaryとboundsも微妙にニュアンスが違うらしくbounds自体に境界という意味合いがあるとか。こういう何となく流してる英語って多そうですよね。
