0084:MR.BIG/HEY MAN
Their fourth album was released after a period of two years and four months, the longest interval between releases to date.
This was also the period when they enjoyed their greatest success in Japan in terms of album sales. The first single from the album, "TAKE COVER," reached number one on the Japanese charts.
Kevin Elson was the producer for all four albums since their debut. Compared to their previous albums, this one has a slightly different flavor, but after listening to it several times, you realize it's full of their signature sound. The opening track, "TRAPPED IN TOYLAND," may be a little unsettling at first, as it doesn't sound like their usual lead-off song.
In addition to Eric Martin, the credits for this song include Jeff Martin (ex-RACER X, BADLANDS) and Russ Parrish (STEEL PANTHER). When you hear it, you'll think, "Ah, now I see."
Recommend:TRAPPED IN TOYLAND, TAKE COVER, JANE DOE, GOIN' WHERE THE WIND BLOWS, THE CHAIN, WHERE DO I FIT IN?, IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES, OUT OF THE UNDERGROUND, DANCIN' RIGHT INTO THE FLAME, FOOL US TODAY

0083:MR.BIG/JAPANDEMONIUM:RAW LIKE SUSHI Ⅲ
This LIVE EP captures the Japan leg of the Bump Ahead Tour held in 1993. Following this tour, the "JAPANDEMONIUM TOUR" was also conducted, reflecting the band's high popularity in Japan.
Recommend:Track selection follows the studio album.

0082:MR.BIG/BUMP AHEAD
After completing a long tour, they entered the studio to begin recording, targeting a June 1993 release.
However, Atlantic demanded a "second TO BE WITH YOU," leading them to create numerous ballad demos that were ultimately rejected. They made dozens of demos, but the decision was finally made to add Cat Stevens' "WILD WORLD" as a cover track. The release was delayed three months from the original schedule, finally coming out in September 1993.
Compared to their previous work, it lacks variety, but it's an album where you can feel their underlying respect and reverence for the blues. The experience gained on tour and the band's growth as a unit are clearly evident in the result. North America was already engulfed by the grunge wave, so chart action was lackluster, but their popularity in Japan became firmly established.
Recommend:COLORADO BULLDOG, PRICE YOU GOTTA PAY, PROMISE HER THE MOON, WHAT'S IT GONNA BE, WILD WORLD, MR.GONE, THE WHOLE WORLD'S GONNA KNOW, NOTHING BUT LOVE, TEMPERAMENTAL

0081:MR.BIG/LIVE
Following the success of "TO BE WITH YOU," they embarked on a world tour, and this live album captures the triumphant final leg of that tour at their hometown show in San Francisco. The track listing here is rather incomplete; the DVD recorded on the same day offers a full-length version including each member's solo segments.
The content truly captures the band riding high on momentum, delivering a satisfying performance that makes for a solid live album. I hope a full-length version gets released someday.
Recommend:Conforms to the selection of songs on the studio album.

0080:MR.BIG/RAW LIKE SUSHI II
This EP features selections from the live recordings of the Japan tour. The original recordings were released on DVD, which contains the full concert. The hit song "TO BE WITH YOU" is also included, but it's performed with an electric guitar. This was because the electric-acoustic guitar malfunctioned during the live show and couldn't be used.
I was actually there for this live show, and it was an amazing performance.
Recommend:Conforms to the selection of songs on the studio album.

0079:MR.BIG/LEAN INTO IT
Their second album, released two years after their debut. Like the previous work, Kevin Erson served as producer.
An exceptionally polished album. It stands as their signature work. Though it received little attention immediately after release, heavy rotation of the track "TO BE WITH YOU" on a local American FM station sparked its spread across the country, ultimately becoming a massive hit that reached No. 1 on the US charts as a single. The album itself climbed as high as No. 15 on the US charts.
This success led to an upgrade from their previous clubhouse-level tours to hall-level venues, enabling a world tour that primarily covered North America, Europe, and Japan.
Recommend:DADDY, BROTHER, LOVER, LITTLE BOY (The Electric Drill Song) , ALIVE AND KICKIN', GREEN-TINTED SIXTIES MIND, CDFF-LUCKY THIS TIME, VOODOO KISS, NEVER SAY NEVER, JUST TAKE MY HEART, ROAD TO RUIN, TO BE WITH YOU

0078:MR.BIG/RAW LIKE SUSHI
This live EP captures the band's North American tour as the opening act for RUSH following the release of their first album.
Recorded likely via DAT from the PA booth, it delivers an incredibly raw sound that lets you feel their drive, groove, and technique directly.
In Japan, they performed solo shows, and I was fortunate enough to witness this band during their formative years.
As a teenager at the time, I was utterly overwhelmed by their incredible technique and energy. Before I knew it, the live show was over. It remains an unforgettable memory to this day.
Recommend:Conforms to the selection of songs on the studio album.

0077:MR.BIG/MR.BIG
In 1988, bassist Billy Sheehan, who left DAVID LEE ROTH BAND after recording the album SKYSCRAPER, set out to form his own band. Eric Martin, who had released two solo albums at the time and was talented but had not yet made his breakthrough, joined the band. They were further joined by Pat Torpey, formerly of Ted Nugent and Imperterri. Finally, they welcomed Paul Gilbert, guitarist of RACER X, who was attracting attention in the L.A. music scene at the time, completing the squad.
They made a demo and took it to record companies. They eventually signed with ATLANTIC/WARNER and began recording. Despite a low budget and tight schedule, they welcomed producer Kevin Ellison and completed their first album, "MR. BIG". It was released in 1989. At the time, they were strongly perceived as "that band formed by Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert," and their bluesy side rarely received much attention.
The times were harsh for bands like them, and they struggled to achieve the success they hoped for in their home country, the U.S. Nevertheless, they grew into a tight band, mainly playing clubhouse venues, including tours as the opening act for RUSH and on a package tour with WINGER.
Recommend:ADDICTED TO THAT RUSH, MERCILESS, HAD ENOUGH, BLAME IT ON MY YOUTH, TAKE A WALK, BIG LOVE, HOW CAN YOU DO WHAT YOU DO, ANYTHING FOR YOU, ROCK & ROLL OVER, 30 DAYS IN THE HOLE

0076:DAVID LEE ROTH/DIAMOND DAVE
Covers album released in 2003.
It contains mainly rock and blues songs from the 70's arranged in a big band style.
Some songs from the VAN HALEN era are also included.
Recommend:ICE CREAM MAN

つー
0075:DAVID LEE ROTH/DLR BAND
This is the fifth album released in 1998.
It was dropped from a major record company and became a form of independent release. It is a change from the previous album, with a hard rock style and many songs with a sense of speed. The momentum of the album is similar to that of "EM AND SMILE" but the production is cheap, which is a great disappointment. The production is cheap, and the quality of the production makes it difficult to get through the instruments, which is what the listener is looking for in DLR.
The main recording member is the young John 5, who is also a member of the recording team.
Recommend:SLAM DUNK!, BLACKLIGHT, COUNTER-BLAST, LOSE THE DRESS, LITTLE TEXAS, KING OF THE HILL, RELENTLESS, INDEEDIDO, TIGHT

つー
0074:DAVID LEE ROTH/THE BEST
This is the best album selected from the four albums and EPs from the Warner era due to the fact that he left Warner.
Recommend:Recommendation conforms to the studio album.

つー
0073:DAVID LEE ROTH/YOUR FILTHY LITTLE MOUTH
This is the fourth album released in 1994. In a sense, the appointment of Nile Rodgers as producer was a surprise.
The sound of the album is closer to DLR's own musical origins. Instead of the arena rock style of the past, it features a wide range of music, including blues, jazz, big band, country, disco, and rock.
The band members have also changed. Touring members not from the metal community were assembled.
However, listeners' image of DLR and what they wanted from him diverged greatly, and the band failed to make it to #78 on the North American charts. The contract with Warner, with whom DLR had been in a relationship for many years, was terminated.
Recommend:SHE'S MY MACHINE, EVERYBODY'S GOT THE MONKEY, BIG TRAIN, A LITTLE LUCK, HEY,YOU NEVER KNOW

つー
0072:DAVID LEE ROTH/A LITTLE AIN'T ENOUGH
Released in 1991, this third album was recorded with newly discovered ex-Cacophony guitarist Jason Becker, who had left the band Steve Vai. The rhythm section continues to be the Bissonnette brothers.
With the new talent Jason Becker, Diamond Dave was about to shine even brighter. But, in the middle of recording, Jason was diagnosed with ALS at a very young age. The recording session was completed, but the band was unable to go on tour.
After the release of the album, the band embarked on a world tour, mainly in Europe.
The band members include John Holmes, ex-Lizzy Borden, who replaced Jason. On bass is Todd Jensen, ex-HARDLINE. On drums is Greg Bissonette, who has recorded and toured on three albums.
In terms of chart action, the album only reached #18 in the US, but was well received in Europe, reaching #9 in Norway, #5 in Switzerland, and #1 in Finland.
This album is underrated, but it is an excellent album for DLR to make after their two previous albums. It is certainly less flashy, but more than that, in my opinion, it expresses a different side of him and points in the right direction for mature rock.
Recommend:A LIL' AIN'T ENOUGH, SHOOT IT, LADY LUCK, TELL THE TRUTH, BABY'S ON FIRE, 40 BELOW, IT'S SHOWTIME!

つー
0071:DAVID LEE ROTH/SKYSCRAPER
Second album released in 1988, recorded with the same members as the previous album, and reached #6 on the US charts. This album strongly reflects Steve Vai's sound. It gives the impression of "packaging of individuality" rather than " flashy as rock".
Billy Sheen left the band after recording, and Greg's brother, Matt Bissonette, joined the band from the tour.
Recommend:KNUCKLEBONES, JUST LIKE PARADISE, THE BOTTOM LINE, SKYSCRAPER, HOT DOG AND A SHAKE, STAND UP

つー
0070:DAVID LEE ROTH/EAT 'EM AND SMILE
Released 1st full album in 1986.
The members are ex-ALCATRAZZ guitarist Steve Vai. It was produced with Billy Sheen of ex-TALAS on bass and Greg Bissonette on drums.
As a later note, Steve Vai was not the first choice for the guitarist position at the time, but Steve Stevens, who was a member of Billy Idol's band.
6 original songs. 3 covers. And a remake of "SHY BOY," one of the most popular songs of TALAS, the band Billy was a member of.
The fusion of the high-technique members and the highly entertaining DAVE had a super strong impact on the rock scene at that time.
The album rose to No. 4 in the U.S., and the U.S. tour ended with great success.
Recommend:YANKEE ROSE, SHY BOY, GOIN' CRAZY!, TOBACCO ROAD, ELEPHANT GUN, BIG TROUBLE

つー
0069:DAVID LEE ROTH/CRAZY FROM THE HEAT
VAN HALEN lead singer DAVE LEE ROTH's first EP released in 1985, featuring all cover songs. Produced by Ted Templeman as well as VAN HALEN. It reached #15 in the U.S.
After the release, he left VAN HALEN in January 1985 and started recording his 1st Solo ALBUM.
