【感想】
頑なで捻くれきったトラヴァース夫人は険しい氷山のよう…彼女の心は切り立った断崖のように人を寄せ付けず、近づく者は吹雪のような冷たく厳しい言葉に晒されることになる。
夫人からの度重なるダメ出しに、映画製作陣が四苦八苦していて可哀想になってくる。でも、どんな厳しい注文に対しても辛抱強く向き合おうとするディズニー側の対応は素晴らしかった。特にウォルト本人が夫人を説得するシーンは心を打たれた。
なぜこんなにも偏屈な人物が、メリー・ポピンズのような夢のある物語を書けたのか。
夫人の回想シーンにその手がかりがある。そして過去がわかると、彼女の見え方も少し変わってくる。
完成した映画を鑑賞するトラヴァース夫人の表情に引き込まれた。夫人の父親への思い、そしてウォルトの果たそうとした約束…これまでのいろいろなものが浮かんできて涙が止まらなくなった。
トラヴァース夫人役エマ・トンプソンの怪演とウォルト役トム・ハンクスの安定感。
そして脇役の演技もみんな人情味があって素晴らしかった。
原題は「SAVING MR.BANKS」。観終わる頃にはその意味がわかる。そしてメリー・ポピンズをちゃんと観てみようと思った。
