The first album was released in 1978, recorded with producer Ted Templeman, and reached No. 19 in the U.S. This album had more impact on the music scene than chart action. The band consists of EDDIE VAN HALEN on guitar, ALEX VAN HALEN on drums, DAVE LEE ROTH on vocals, and MICHAEL ANTHONY on bass.
The instrumental "Eruption," which had a great impact on the music scene later on, was recorded by Ted after hearing guitarist Eddie Van Halen warm up, and he suggested recording it for the album.
The album has now sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone, making it one of the MOST historic albums in the world of HM/HR.

At this point, Warner was actually trying to get Sammy Hagar, who would later become the lead singer of the band, to replace Dave, but Ted stopped the idea and it never came to fruition. Later, the management tried to get Sammy Hagar to form a band with Michael Schenker, but as you all know, Sammy went on to become a successful solo artist.
