全体は11曲で構成され、1曲進むごとに、使用される音が1音ずつ増えていく。
どの曲も限られた音数の中でさらに特定の音型が設定されており、 それをテンポ、音域、ディナーミクなどを変化させる方法で展開する。
こうした作曲技法は、後の1960年代にアメリカで台頭するミニマル・ミュージックの先駆けにもなっていると考えられる。
シュトックハウゼンらの影響と考えられる前衛音楽の傾向も強いが、限られた音数や音型で書かれている点などは実験音楽に通じているように捉えられる。
