英語の「音」を聞きまくろう
■どういうこと？
YouTubeで「2025 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship」を検索してずっと流しておきましょう
□これ、牛とかの競り？
はい、そうです。競りをする人の全米一を決める大会が毎年行われていまして、それの今年の決勝の様子が11時間の動画として公開されています。今年の決勝は比較的聞き取りやすいです。
□なんで競りなんか聞く必要があるの？
耳を鍛える初手として手頃な教材だからです。
□「初手として手頃」に見えないんですけど
これをシャドウイングの題材として使うならどう見ても上級者向けです。ただ耳を鍛えるためなら利点ばかりです。
・語彙が限られている(基本数字ばかりだし)
・滑舌がいい(正確に聞き取ってもらってナンボの世界ですから)
・英語のリズムに忠実(英語のリズムさえ捉えるとしっかり聞くべき所と気を抜いていい所があるのが区別できるようになります)
・一瞬聞き落としてもすぐに復帰できる(競りなんで基本値段が少しずつ上がっていきます。それさえ分かっていればこの辺の数字が出てくるなと予測できるのでラクなんです)
■レベル0
まずは1商品分の競りがこう行われていくんだなという流れをつかみましょう。
■レベル1
何を喋っているのかは分からなくていいので、リズムを感じ取りましょう。
■レベル2
数字を聞き取りましょう。メモする必要はありません。
■レベル3
結局いくらで競り落とされたのか、答え合わせをしましょう。
■レベル4
