内田先生の本。美人で頭がよくて憧れますね。

Japanese well-being has several distinctive characteristics. In Japan, people tend to be modest when evaluating their own happiness, and even when living conditions are stable, many hesitate to say that they are “very happy.” Rather than actively pursuing strong positive emotions such as joy or excitement, happiness is often associated with the absence of anxiety, conflict, or major problems, and with a sense of everyday stability.
In addition, well-being in Japan is rarely experienced as something purely individual. It is closely connected to relationships with family, colleagues, and social groups, and to the feeling of being useful or fulfilling a role within these contexts. While Japanese people generally show a strong sense of responsibility and role awareness, their self-esteem tends to be relatively low, and they are cautious about explicitly describing themselves as happy. Overall, Japanese well-being can be understood as a quiet form of happiness, grounded in stability and harmonious relationships rather than in intense positive emotions.
